Job Description

We’re seeking a highly empathetic leader in Pune to lead our new Product Led Growth engineering team focused on increasing Adoption within Zendesk’s products for our customers.

Note***: This is a hybrid role, combining remote and on-site work, requiring 3 days in the office, and relocation to Pune.

This is an exciting, high growth opportunity to be a crucial part of building a team from the ground up.

Ideal candidates are hardworking individuals with experience hiring, leading and managing software engineers. We want someone with the technical aptitude to dive into the details when required, but desire to prioritize team output over individual output. Your primary focus over the first six months will be to establish the team’s culture, identity and processes. You’ll work to ensure the team ships high quality, scalable software at a regular cadence, while maintaining a collaborative and inclusive team environment.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Recruit, onboard and retain hardworking engineers.

  • Establish a team culture and identity for a brand new engineering team.

  • Provide day-to-day people management for a team of engineers and support their professional development through active mentorship.

  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and productive team.

  • Set and ensure a high bar for quality; ensure the team's output is well-structured, unit tested, and scalable.

  • Keep your team up to date on meaningful engineering and business decisions.

  • Build the processes that are right for your team, nurture their adoption, and evolve them based on what's working and what isn't.

What you bring to the role:

  • 5+ years of experience working in software development.

  • 2+ years of experience directly managing software engineers.

  • Excellent communication skills to both technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Familiar with establishing standards, setting and communicating timelines, and guiding technical decisions.

  • Able to build and nurture healthy relationships both within and external to the team.

  • Highly empathetic and emotionally intelligent.

  • Deep understanding of software development and comfortable leading a team to release complex features built for scale.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience working as a software engineer contributing code in a production environment and are a skilled and self-sufficient engineer.

  • Experience working for a Software-as-a-service (SaaS) company at scale.

  • Experience working on large scale Identity & Access Management systems and/or familiarity with IAM industry practices.

Tech Stack

  • Our backend code is a split between Ruby on Rails.

  • Our frontend interfaces are written in React and Ember.

  • We use Kubernetes and AWS to deploy and scale our applications.

  • We will need some Machine Learning skills on this team which this manager can help hire or train the team on.


Please note that Zendesk can only hire candidates who are physically located and plan to work from Karnataka or Maharashtra. Please refer to the location posted on the requisition for where this role is based.

Hybrid: In this role, our hybrid experience is designed at the team level to give you a rich onsite experience packed with connection, collaboration, learning, and celebration - while also giving you flexibility to work remotely for part of the week. This role must attend our local office for part of the week. The specific in-office schedule is to be determined by the hiring manager.
