More than one million people in the United States today are fighting blood cancer. While a traditional allogeneic stem cell transplant has been the best hope for many, the transplant itself can prove fatal or lead to serious conditions, such as graft vs. host disease. Orca Bio is a late-stage biotechnology company redefining the transplant process by developing next-generation cell therapies with the goal of providing significantly better survival rates with dramatically fewer risks. With our purified, high-precision investigational cell therapies we hope to not only replace patients' blood and immune systems with healthy ones, but also restore their lives.
Summary: as the IT Manager at Orca Bio, reporting into the Head of Software Systems, you will oversee the company’s IT infrastructure, ensuring the seamless operation of our technology systems and supporting our critical biotech research and development activities. You will do hands-on work, lead a small team (~3) of IT professionals, manage IT projects, and ensure the security and efficiency of our IT operations.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the company’s IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, and data storage systems.
Lead and mentor a team of IT professionals, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance, including Helpdesk, Network and Security.
- Develop, implement, and maintain IT policies and procedures to ensure data security and compliance with industry standards.
- Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware and software, including lab equipment and specialized biotech software.
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and disruptions.
- Collaborate with other teams to understand their IT needs and provide appropriate solutions.
- Coordinate with external vendors and service providers to procure and maintain IT equipment and services.
- Ensure the company’s IT infrastructure is scalable and capable of supporting future growth.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and emerging technologies to keep the company’s IT systems current and competitive.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field (preferred).
- Prior experience in biotech or life sciences (preferred).
- Experience supporting life science lab equipment and specialized software (preferred).
- 5+ years of IT experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial role (required).
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, and data storage systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex IT issues.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and "wear multiple hats."
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to travel occasionally between Menlo Park (R&D, corporate HQ) and Sacramento (Manufacturing facilities) locations.
The anticipated annual salary range for this job is $130,000– $150,000, based on prior experience in the role/industry, education, location, internal equity, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. For remote-based candidates, this range may vary based on your local market. You will also be eligible to receive pre-IPO equity, in addition to medical, dental, and vision benefits, flexible PTO, 401(k) plan, life and accidental death and disability coverage, and parental leave benefits.
