We are seeking an experienced and fast-paced Professional Forester based in the Appalachian Region of the US to join our team to support Forestry Operations, with a strong emphasis on forest establishment and contractor management. You will be responsible for field supervision of silvicultural activities and forest monitoring, utilizing your expertise in forest measurements, project management, and contractor relations. You will work in coordination with Living Carbon’s supply chain, land, and carbon science teams as well as other internal stakeholders. Your primary objective will be to support the Forestry Team in achieving its forest carbon project implementation and operations through focused, rapid coordination of project activities.

A successful candidate will have demonstrated experience effectively establishing and building relationships with internal and external project stakeholders, has a clear understanding of the reforestation process, state-by-state documentation requirements and forest management plans, and risk management of forest threats (pests and pathogens). Ideally, a candidate will be adaptive and creative, skilled with GIS/GPS, and can excel in a fast-growing forestry biotech startup environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate efficiently within our team of forestry professionals, providing field and office support of forest project implementation, with an emphasis on speed and agility. Perform tasks according to project budgets, timelines, and resources.
  • Administer service contracts and serve as field point of contact for contractors, including planting crews, site preparation crews, government natural resources personnel, forestry agencies and conservation organizations.
  • Support the Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) team with data collection, measurement, and monitoring activities over the duration of the project. This includes providing field support on forestry-specific data collection methodologies, ensuring accurate and reliable data collection, and collaborating with the MRV team to validate and report project outcomes.
  • Willingness and ability to regularly travel to project sites for due diligence, site preparation, planting season and continual forest monitoring.
  • Contribute to optimizing a playbook to expand our forest project implementation to tens of thousands of acres of projects.
  • Help develop planting project design and execution, working alongside internal supply chain and land origination teams.

Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience successfully implementing large-scale forestry projects, with an understanding of forestry operations, sustainable land management, and forest carbon sequestration.
  • Strong work ethic and capability to function at a high level on internal teams with common goals while maintaining an emphasis on moving quickly.
  • Familiarity with data analysis, including the ability to interpret and utilize scientific research, GIS data, and remote sensing technologies to inform decision-making. Skilled at forest measurement practices and the corresponding use of relevant desktop and mobile forestry software and tools.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively manage contractors and build relationships with external partners. Strong project management skills, including the ability to effectively execute and monitor projects, manage resources effectively, and deliver results within tight timelines and budgets.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in forestry, natural resource management, or a related curriculum. Strong commitment to environmental sustainability and a passion for combating climate change through innovative carbon reduction strategies
