We Breathe Life Into Data

At Komodo Health, our mission is to reduce the global burden of disease. And we believe that smarter use of data is essential to this mission. That’s why we built the Healthcare Map — the industry’s largest, most complete, precise view of the U.S. healthcare system — by combining de-identified, real-world patient data with innovative algorithms and decades of clinical experience. The Healthcare Map serves as our foundation for a powerful suite of software applications, helping us answer healthcare’s most complex questions for our partners. Across the healthcare ecosystem, we’re helping our clients unlock critical insights to track detailed patient behaviors and treatment patterns, identify gaps in care, address unmet patient needs, and reduce the global burden of disease.

As we pursue these goals, it remains essential to us that we stay grounded in our values: be awesome, seek growth, deliver “wow,” and enjoy the ride. At Komodo, you will be joining a team of ambitious, supportive Dragons with diverse backgrounds but a shared passion to deliver on our mission to reduce the burden of disease — and enjoy the journey along the way.

The Opportunity at Komodo Health

The core purpose of the backend role within our team is to play a pivotal role in shaping and fortifying the authentication services, specifically focusing on Identity and Access Management (IAM), Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), and subscription management. This position is integral to maintaining the foundational elements that safeguard the integrity of our systems and contribute to the seamless operation of our products.

Your responsibilities extend to the design and implementation of backend processes that facilitate secure user authentication, authorization, and subscription handling. This role acts as the guardian of our system's security and reliability, ensuring that our users have a smooth and protected experience while interacting with our products.

Collaboration with cross-functional teams is a key aspect of this mission, as you will work closely with frontend developers, system architects, and security experts to integrate cutting-edge technologies and best practices. Your contributions will directly impact the end-to-end functionality of our platform services, making certain that our products meet the highest standards of performance, security, and scalability.

Looking back on your first 12 months at Komodo Health, you will have…

  • Spearheaded innovations in subscription management, introducing new features and refining existing functionalities.
  • Strengthened the Identity and Access Management (IAM) system to ensure robust user authentication and authorization processes.
  • Designed and implemented optimizations to the RBAC system, enhancing the precision and efficiency of access controls.
  • Played a key role in ensuring that all foundational services adhere to security best practices and compliance standards.
  • Successfully executed security audits and implemented necessary measures to address vulnerabilities, resulting in a more secure system.
  • Collaborated effectively with cross-functional teams to seamlessly integrate authentication services with various APIs and external systems.
  • Contributed to the development of secure and reliable API endpoints for seamless interactions with our products.
  • Implemented measures to enhance the developer experience, such as well-documented code, clear API documentation, and efficient debugging tools.
  • Set a high technical standard for code quality, scalability, and performance within the authentication services domain.
  • Acted as a mentor for team members, providing guidance on best practices and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Troubleshooted effectively, provided on-call support for customers, demonstrating responsiveness and problem-solving skills to address any issues in a timely manner.

What you bring to Komodo:

  • Demonstrated deep experience and proficiency in Python, leveraging it for backend development tasks and scripting.
  • Expertise in utilizing the FastAPI framework for building robust and efficient authentication services.
  • Proven experience in managing Terraform, ensuring the reliability and scalability of underlying service infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience with Kubernetes for container orchestration, enabling seamless deployment and scaling of backend services.
  • Competence in using Helm for managing Kubernetes applications, and streamlining the deployment and versioning of authentication service components.
  • Significant experience in optimizing data retrieval processes, specifically tailoring them to support authentication service API output efficiently.
  • Proven ability to design APIs for web application development, considering factors such as synchronous vs asynchronous response patterns and implementing effective caching strategies.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of multiple data storage platforms (e.g., relational databases, data lakes, key-value/document stores) and the ability to select the most suitable for specific read patterns.
  • Ability to design solutions considering non-functional concerns, including performance optimization, cost efficiency, maintainability, and a positive developer experience.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, product managers, data scientists, and commercial teams.
