About the role
The Senior Counsel, International role will be supporting Coalition’s International business, positioned at the intersection of the insurance and cybersecurity industries. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel for International, this role will assist in addressing the international business teams’ legal and regulatory needs, including supporting international markets in which we operate, working with local counsel across various jurisdictions, reviewing contracts and legal documents, aiding in regulatory compliance, assisting with licensing matters, and providing practical guidance to business stakeholders.
A successful candidate should possess excellent communication skills, strong negotiation abilities, and the capability to drive multiple priorities effectively. Collaboration and teamwork are essential, along with an understanding of common legal issues outside of the U.S. Candidates must be comfortable working on projects in multiple jurisdictions and adept at functioning in a remote environment across different time zones.
This is a remote opportunity that can be based anywhere in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal guidance and support on corporate, insurance, contract, and regulatory matters in international jurisdictions where we operate and plan to operate
- Assist in analyzing and communicating applicable laws and regulations, and support the implementation of practical legal guidance, corporate policies, and compliance processes
- Collaborate with Coalition’s compliance professionals to update and enhance corporate policies and procedures for international operations
- Develop and maintain relationships with Coalition stakeholders, gaining insights into our international business strategy, the insurance industry in relevant geographies, and regulatory and/or market conditions that impact Coalition’s business
- Support negotiation efforts for agreements and arrangements with key business partners in various jurisdictions
- Draft correspondence, contracts, and other legal documents to support Coalition's international businesses
- Monitor and respond to legal inquiries with respect to international locations
- Build, support, and maintain relationships with outside counsel and other key external stakeholders
- Stay informed about applicable laws, legal/regulatory trends, and other compliance developments that impact Coalition’s international businesses
- Work collaboratively as part of a team, including providing guidance and mentorship to junior lawyers’ or other legal professional’s work
Skills and Qualifications
- 8+ years of professional experience as an attorney
- 5+ years of experience working in-house in a highly regulated industry for a global organization (insurance or insurtech preferred)
- Experience working on complex legal issues and problems, particularly in an international context
- Strong legal and business acumen and comfort tackling unfamiliar issues or problems
- High work standards, with the ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and effectively navigate a remote working environment
- Ability to fully and effectively respond to client requests, following through on projects in a timely manner, and adapting to a fast-based and changing environment across multiple time zones
- Excellent project management and organizational skills
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- Strong negotiating skills in both legal and commercial matters
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a track record of presenting to internal stakeholders
Compensation
Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The US base salary for this position ranges from $175,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $215,000/year in our highest geographic market. Consistent with applicable laws, an employee's pay within this range is based on a number of factors, which include but are not limited to relevant education, skills, job-related knowledge, qualifications, work experience, credentials, and/or geographic location. Your recruiter can share more on target salary for your location during the interview process. Coalition, Inc. reserves the right to modify this range as needed.
