Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.
Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!
Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.
Where and how you can work
Our flagship campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide. But you have choice in where and how you work, we trust our Canvanauts to choose the balance that empowers them and their team to achieve their goals.
What you’d be doing in this role
As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.
At the moment, this role is focused on:
- Coaching and leadership. At Canva, we call managers "coaches" to reflect the supportive relationship we want you to have with your direct reports. As a Group Product Design Lead, you'll support 3-5 designers through 1:1 coaching, shaping projects, providing feedback, setting career goals, and conducting impact reviews. This is also a player-coach role, meaning you'll stay hands-on with tasks like designing end-to-end flows, conducting user research, or leading projects from start to finish.
- Vision and strategy. Clearly defining the design vision, strategy and roadmap for the Learning Experience group and senior stakeholders, creating clarity through your communication by simplifying complex things.
- Scaling the Product Design team. Planning for future design resourcing needs within your group leads in your triad.
- Prioritisation. Taking broad, conceptual ideas and collaborating with Product Managers and Engineering Leads to ensure that the team prioritises the most valuable features.
- Research. Deeply understanding competitors, trends, patterns, best practices, UX design inspiration, and user and business insights.
- Shaping and establishing design processes. By driving design best practices, you'll enable more significant impact and efficiency across the team.
- Setting a high-quality bar for design. You strongly advocate for ensuring clean, elegant, and usable design. You can provide guidance and feedback to continually raise our bar for quality.
You're probably a match if you have
- A strong background in end-to-end product design. You have a track-record of tackling complex problems and delivering simple, elegant solutions. You've designed and shipped multiple products or features across various platforms. Ideally, you have experience designing in tools such as Figma.
- Experience coaching product designers. You’re known for the coaching skills you bring to the table. You’re able to rally a team around a vision, create individual progression plans for your team members and champion your team every step of the way.
- Effective communication skills. You have experience communicating future design directions with stakeholders and inspiring positive action within your team to bring the vision to life.
- Strong visual communication skills. You have experience communicating ideas and information that visually inspire, influence and tell a compelling story.
- A collaborative approach. You have experience working closely with other Designers, Engineers and Product Managers. You value feedback and brainstorming ideas.
- Stakeholder management skills. You have experience dealing with broad stakeholder groups and know when to bring the right people together to achieve common goals.
- Strong engineering literacy. You have experience working with engineers unpacking feasibility and making trade-offs where required.
- A growth mindset. You're eager to learn and develop your skills whilst having fun along the way!
